Tips and Tricks to Sell Your T-shirts – Interview with Jeff Thomson
Hey Tycoons!
So here is the interview with Jeff Thomson. I was blown away with the content he gave us. So make sure you put it to good use!
As I let you all know, the audio really lags between us as the conversation goes on, so I have provided you with the transcript that was painstakingly deciphered.
The topics we cover in the interview are
- How do you find potential stockists?
- What is the best process for approaching potential stockists?
- What do you need to make your brand stand out?
- Should I do consignment?
- What are the various seasons and how do they work?
And heaps more. The interview is 55 minutes long and we went into plenty of stuff I didn’t list above. So here you go…
Download mp3 here (right click “Save link as…”) – EDIT: It seems there is a problem with the download. It removes the .mp3 file extension. If you rename the file with the .mp3 file extension it will work fine. Let me know if there are any issues.
We would love to hear your thoughts and further questions because I am planning a Q&A style style interview with Jeff if we get enough questions.
Just post them in the comments section below.

Thanks Joel,
This is an extremely helpful interview. We found out some really exciting information. Especially about the trade shows and how to market our brand to retailers.
I was just wondering if you could ask Jeff, in regards to internet marketing.

Hey Cam!
Glad you got something from it mate.
Not sure internet marketing is Jeff’s area of expertise. But you’re in luck because it is mine
I’ll definitely be putting something together for sure. Will let you know.

Excellent interview thanks so much!
Just one thing I would like to know his thoughts on is, selling prices (RRP). How do you find a happy medium? Especially when you’re starting out with high production costs for low run numbers.
If you price too high you run the risk of the stock staying on the shelves (that’s if retailers even buy it to begin with), but if you price it too low you run the risk of ruining your label’s image and making it look ‘cheap’. Not to mention making no profit. I guess marketing plays a big part in retail pricing? Look at Ed Hardy..
Thanks heaps!

Hey Brett.
No worries!!
I’ll add that to the list of questions. I think price it as high as you think you can get away with. Look at others in your niche and see where they are priced at. Even look at spending a bit more on better quality garments and specialty printing to justify charging more for your product.
I know one of our clients sells to boutique fashion stores and he only does 1 colour prints on custom made tees but retails them for $120 ea!!
So it can be done.
