Tips and Tricks to Sell Your T-shirts – Interview with Jeff Thomson

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Hey Tycoons!

So here is the interview with Jeff Thomson. I was blown away with the content he gave us. So make sure you put it to good use!

As I let you all know, the audio really lags between us as the conversation goes on, so I have provided you with the transcript that was painstakingly deciphered.

The topics we cover in the interview are

  • How do you find potential stockists?
  • What is the best process for approaching potential stockists?
  • What do you need to make your brand stand out?
  • Should I do consignment?
  • What are the various seasons and how do they work?

And heaps more. The interview is 55 minutes long and we went into plenty of stuff I didn’t list above. So here you go…

Here is the transcript

Download mp3 here (right click “Save link as…”) – EDIT: It seems there is a problem with the download. It removes the .mp3 file extension. If you rename the file with the .mp3 file extension it will work fine. Let me know if there are any issues.

We would love to hear your thoughts and further questions because I am planning a Q&A style style interview with Jeff if we get enough questions.

Just post them in the comments section below.

T-shirt Label Survey Results

Monday, July 26th, 2010

We recently did a survey of all of our database who have told us that they are a t-shirt label. Basically we wanted them to let us know what they saw as their biggest hurdles in taking their t-shirt company to the next level.

We are now going to compile some sort of information/training based on the responses we got so that people will be a little better armed to grow their existing business. To do this we will call on a lot of our industry contacts and existing clients who have succeeded with their t-shirt and clothing companies and they will share with you what got them to where they are and how you can do it too.

Here are the results…

FAQS

Why do you require vector images?

Vector images are made out of lines and shapes. This helps us when we need to separate colours. Each shape that has the same colour is separated from the image. This can’t effectively be done with a bitmap image when printing with spot colours.

One time when it is ok to use bitmap images is when you want a full colour print using process CMYK colours. Sometimes bitmap images are ok for single colour prints as long as they are at least 300dpi and already at print size.

Why do more colours cost more?

The way screen printing works we have to set a screen up for every colour in every print. The more screens the higher the set up costs. It also takes longer to print 4 colours as we need to make 4 separate print passes on each tee.
